Important Information For Avaya/CWA Supporters
As I am sure you are all well aware, Avaya has refused to honor the current collective bargaining agreement that provides a means for Avaya workers to make their choice about unionization in a neutral environment. We have recently concluded the grievance procedure options, and Avaya has notified us that they will not arbitrate the issue either. (Another contract violation.)
What all this means to you, is that the path to achieving a voice at your workplace is going to be much more difficult than we originally had hoped. We do have some legal options remaining, but the most important tool we have is worker solidarity and support.
The Avaya Inside Organizing Committee met last week to discuss options and plans. We have determined that the next step is to assess the current level of support and commitment of the BBE workforce.
We have established an on-line petition at: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/cwa/ to gauge support. Please visit the site, sign the petition, and pass it on to your colleagues. (Use personal email addresses only.)
CWA and the Avaya BBE Inside Organizing Committee are as committed as ever to gaining a voice at work for the BBE group. However, we can only accomplish this if the workforce remains solid and supportive.
Please let me know if you have any questions, Al.
