COLORADO STATE EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION

Welcome Colorado State Employees,  to "your" website anchored at the CWA 7777.org online location!  We want  you to learn more about us, what we do, and how we can help you.

We are a tightknit family here at CWA 7777.  If you will take a look at our front page,  you will  find listed both the private sector and public sector employees we represent.  We have links to other interesting and important places which we hope you will take time to visit when you have time.  Please do not do this during company working hours!  You will see who our officers are and  how to reach them; our Local's address in Englewood, Colorado;  and other information.

We will be working hard for you as we traverse this journey towards bettering your futures.   We are looking forward to you becoming part of our family.

Please contact Joe Juarez on 303.781.8700, Extension 40. or by email jjuarez@cwa7777.org if you have any questions or problems.  Although he is not in the office everyday (he'll be working out in the field a lot), he will return your call or email as soon as he possibly can.

We Are the Union for Colorado State Public Workers

Our Union, The Colorado Employee Association – Communications Workers of America CSEA-SEA, is made up of Colorado State employees who are striving to improve our jobs and working conditions.  Assisted by CWA, a strong, progressive Labor Union representing 700,000 members all across the U.S., there is much we can achieve as CSEA members.

Already in Colorado there are public employees that have improved their pay, benefits, and working conditions through CWA.  They are employees of the City of Denver for Denver Public Schools.  We also represent public safety and state corrections officers in Arizona.  CWA is an experienced advocate for public employees, representing more than 150,000 state, county and municipal employees in the U.S.  This includes more than 5,000 New Mexico state employees who work in government jobs just like us. Through their CWA-affiliated union, the State Employee Alliance, they have made great strides in improving their jobs and workplace conditions.

Through our own Colorado State Employee Association-CWA, we have created the means to bring Colorado State Employees together so  we can have a strong and effective voice as well.  By joining together in CSEA, we’ll have the ability to work collectively in addressing our concerns and resolving issues that affect us all (favoritism, the lack of proper representation during disciplinary actions, few opportunities for advancement, and more.)

QUALITY JOBS/QUALITY SERVICE, NOT PRIVATIZATION

Today, CSEA-CWA is playing an active role in getting the Colorado State Legislature to address state workers’ concerns when lawmakers write a new budget or consider legislation that affects either us or the effectiveness of state government programs and services.

Privatization is the single most serious threat to our jobs, and CSEA will be a strong voice against the growing practice in Colorado and other states to contract out government programs, services, and jobs to private for-profit businesses.

Through the efforts of CWA-affiliated state worker organizations like CSEA, state workers are succeeding in turning back privatization.  In Texas, their State Employees Union thwarted efforts to privatize numerous state programs, services, and jobs to outside private contractors.  In CSEA-CWA, we will be using the same model to fight privatization in Colorado.

NEEDED: A VOICE IN OUR JOBS

OUR GOAL IS FOR
Colorado State Employees—like state government employees in 25 states—to have the right to bargain over wages, benefits, and working conditions.  With collective bargaining rights, we can negotiate fair and equitable working conditions in a binding Union contract.

CSEA-CWA is working with Colorado State Legislators to adopt the kind of public employee bargaining law that was enacted three years ago in New Mexico for CWA-represented state employees there, who are now covered by a union contract.

Legislative action by CSEA members like us, supported by CWA, is critical in the creation of our own public bargaining law in Colorado. Through lobbying and political action, we can create the kind of atmosphere that we need to get collective bargaining rights.

JOIN CSEA-CWA

By joining CSEA-CWA, you will be part of a worker-led organization that will be working full-time to create positive change for Colorado State government employees.  By utilizing the skills, training, support, experience, and full backing of CWA, our union representatives, officers and stewards will have the knowledge and tools  we need to represent ourselves, influence the state legislature, and gain collective bargaining rights.

CSEA-CWA will represent Colorado State Employees (who belong to CSEA) with problems they encounter in the workplace.  CSEA and CWA representatives have a clear understanding of your rights under the rules laid out under the Colorado State Personnel Board and will provide representation and legal assistance.

CSEA-CWA is not “job insurance” provided by an outside third party.  We, the Colorado State Employees who belong to CSEA, are the “Union,” and we joined together to work for the betterment of all Colorado State Employees.  When problems arise, we will have the ability to represent and fight for ourselves.  When Colorado State Employees work together collectively, management will recognize that our issues and concerns can no longer be ignored.

Because Colorado state employees do not currently have collective bargaining rights, the cost to join CSEA is minimal; it is only two hrs pay of your monthly wage. (Example: $10.00 per hour, Cost $20.00 per month.)

However, as a member of CSEA-CWA you become a full member of the Communications Workers of America (CWA), entitled to all of the rights and privileges of CWA members who have the right to bargain.   To download a "Join Now" form, click here.

Our Message to Candidates—Be a Stronger Voice for State Employees

State employees clearly want a role in improving state services and improving our pay, benefits and working conditions.  Over 89% of survey respondents stated they would be more likely to support a candidate who advocates a stronger role for state employee organizations.
