DEATH
AND SERVICE BENEFIT PLAN DEMYSTIFIED by Bruce McDowell
At the October 14, 1980, General Membership Meeting the membership authorized the creation of a Retirement and Death Benefit Plan (the Plan). To be eligible to receive benefits under the Plan, you must have been a member of Local 7777 on or after January 1, 1981, and be a member in “good standing.” An individual who has not been a member since January 1, 1981, would not be eligible. Benefit amounts are based upon the length of time the individual is a member of Local 7777. Benefits are payable upon the member’s retirement from his/her respective company with 30 years or more service, or upon the retired member’s 65th birthday, or upon the member’s death. Benefits will not be paid until after the member’s retirement or death. A member or his/her beneficiary is entitled, under the Plan, to receive a lump sum payment. The amount of payment is based upon the number of years the individual was a member of Local 7777. Membership in another CWA Local or another labor organization is not counted. If an individual should voluntarily resign(cancel their membership) from Local 7777, the years prior to the resignation will not be counted. Please call the Hall, (303)781-8700 to notify us of your retirement and to request your Death and Service forms. opeiu #5, afl-cio/lll 06.24.05 |
