BUILDING POWER FOR CWA MEMBERS BY HELPING OTHERS TO JOIN WITH US

CWA is one of the fastest growing unions in the country and Local 7777 is helping  to head the way in strategically helping workers with no union to join with us.  When we help others raise their standard of living, we add strength to all bargaining efforts and we add more influence in our communities.  CWA's organizing strategy rests on educated and experienced Local Organizers and strong Volunteer Organizing Committees, supported by Staff and resources from the International Union.

Why Organize?
Do you have concern about safety and working conditions?  Have your health care premiums become too expensive?  Is your boss unfair and unjust?  A union can be a way for workers to shift the balance of power.  The voice of a single worker is hard to hear but when many workers ban together their collective voice b comes difficult to ignore.  Organizing a union is the only way to assure you and your coworkers have a voice at work.  We are dedicated to helping workers gain a voice at work through union representation.

Who We Are
CWA Local 7777 represents over 4,000 workers in Colorado.  Our members are employees at Qwest, AT&T, SBC, Avaya, Lucent, Denver Public School Custodians and Service Employees International Union.

Getting Started
We find the most successful union campaigns succeed because workers are involved.  CWA will provide strategic advice and guidance to help build an effective workplace organization.  The first step in organizing a union is to talk with your coworkers.  What issues do they have?  Are there common themes addressing the concerns of you and your coworkers?  Once you and your coworkers have discussed your concerns, contact us at organize@cwa7777.org or call 303-781-8700, ext 17, and we can set up a meeting.  Together, we can create a plan to organize your workplace.

Your Right to Organize
Organizing and Collective Bargaining rights of private sector employees are guaranteed under the National Labor Relations Act.  The rights of public employees in Colorado are established by each public entity.  Contact CWA to learn more about the laws that will apply to your workplace.

If you are interested in organizing a union in your workplace, email us at organize@cwa7777.org or call 303-781-8700, ext 40.  We can set up a meeting with you and some of your coworkers to find out how CWA can help you to form a union.

Organizing Research Update - 06.24.05

ORGANIZING INSTITUTE

On April 15th-16th several of the CWA Organizing Department and AFL-CIO Organizing Institute members came to Denver!  The OI is an intensive classroom based program to train union organizers

Thanks to all who participated:  Phillip Brodie, Shelly Fox, Carol Giampaolo, Renee Jackson, Sheila Lieder, Brynn McKenna, Larry Moore, Joyce Sisneros, Lynn Smith, Mark Tomon, Nichole Torrez and Ann Vigil.

A special thanks goes to Joe Juarez for his hard work recruiting CWA members to attend the OI and for serving as a teaching fellow during the weekend.

The training we received at the OI is a great opportunity to start an organizing committee at our Local.  By organizing new members, we will succeed in growing our Local and gaining power for workers in Colorado.  Ask how you can help Local 7777’s Research and Organizing program.
