RETIREES
Memo from Bill Bates:
- Dear AT&T Retiree,
If you are a post-March 1, 1990
AT&T retiree, the company is sending you a letter regarding
changes to your health benefits.
-
THE ONLY PURPOSE OF AT&T'S LETTER IS TO SCARE YOU.
The company cannot change your benefits without negotiating with CWA
first, and negotiations will not start until November 1, 2005.
This letter is a blatant bargaining ploy to intimidate you and the
union. Don't let them do it. Show them that AT&T can’t scare CWA
retirees.
-
- When you get the letter, write on it, in
big letters, SHAME ON YOU, and mail it to Dave Dorman,
AT&T, 1 AT&T Way, Room 5A108, Bedminster, NJ. 07921. If you
like, you can fax it to him at (908) 532-1230. Or, give him a
call and let him know what you think. His direct line is (908)
234-4700 or e-mail: dorman@att.com.
In Unity
Bill Bate
We invite you to join
our CWA Retired Members Club. Launched in 1977, we are enjoying
our third decade of success.
In
the
past few years, members have broken bread at potluck luncheon meetings,
bused to Central City, learned from interesting speakers, shared in
valuable door prizes, donated to worthy causes and even received
flowers and fruit from fellow members’ gardens and orchards.
Many
of
our active members attend our monthly gatherings where they hear
updates on issues surrounding our pensions and benefits. We have
dues-payers who worked for Western Electric, AT&T, Lucent, Mountain
Bell, Qwest, Avaya, and in CWA’s newspaper divisions. Spouses are
welcome at all of our activities.
Some
of
our most involved members join in political activities including
fund-raising, lobbying, and testifying before legislators and
commissions that impact our continued security. Many corporations
have reneged on their implied promise of pension benefits for life,
leaving seniors fearful of their financial survival. Some of our
former employers have raided, or seem poised to raid, the very pension
trust funds we earned throughout our dedicated careers.
For
some,
the luncheons, including at least two yearly restaurant visits, warrant
belonging. Others demand more or give more or just enjoy reading
of our activities in the minutes and other mailings. Still others
love the T-shirts, jackets and hats that Local 7777 (our sponsor) often
sends our way. Whatever your level of interest, we hope you’ll
join us.
Membership
is open to any retiree who was a member in good standing at the time
they retired. Dues are only $15.00 per calendar year and are now
due for 2001. A check for that amount, made out to the CWA
Retired Members Club, may be mailed to the address above. Or, if
you prefer to look us over first, call any of the undersigned for the
date of our next meeting. We hope to hear from you.
Fraternally,
Dorothy
Cosgrove, President (303) 428-8347 Walt Maulis, Vice
President (303)278-4158
Harvey
Hoffman, Secretary (303)733-1955
Bill Himmelmann, Treasurer (303)778-6707
