RUMOR HAS IT... gossip

March 27, 2008

It has been brought to my attention that several  members are voicing anger at CWA for allowing the company to offer Enhanced Voluntary Separation to specific groups and that CWA is wrong to enter into this agreement.

Qwest came to CWA with information that, due to the decrease of land lines being sold within the District, a decrease in the number of employees within the Local Network Organization was necessary.  The company was willing to discuss enhancements' to the provisions of Article 19 and CWA negotiated better terms than normal for this group of members.  CWA is not responsible for who the company decides to allow to take this offer
, but however, is quite willing to negotiate additional provisions that may be offered to our membership.

It has come to our attention that certain managers within the Mabry organization are advising our members that a surplus announcement is to occur within the next week.

A.  Upon verification, the company is not looking at a surplus notification; however, is considering a VSPP offer to an unspecified number of employees within unspecified titles.  CWA Local 7777 has received no official notification of this offer. However, again, this is NOT to be a surplus announcement.  If you have questions, please contact your Vice President, Area representative or Steward.

Q.  I have heard... that we (CWA) are going to extend the contract to get past the Republican and Democratic National conventions and then resume talks after we do our Qwest company a favor and not talk of strike when the politicians are here which would give Qwest or CWA a black-eye in the community.

A.  Not true!  There is no intent to extend the contract to accommodate the DNC/RNC.  We are not at the table to accommodate Qwest in any way.  Thank you for your email.  I hope this answers your question.
