| Dear Union Member: Welcome to the Communications Workers of America. By joining CWA you have become a part of seven hundred thousand workers who have won many victories throughout the years. Labor’s strength is in its members, members who are unified and well organized. By standing strong through contract negotiations we have gained fair wages, working conditions and health care. To keep what we have gained we must be involved in the community, in the legislature and continue to grow by organizing. Our Local is actively involved in the community. Each year we raise over $5,000.00 for our charity of choice, Pediatric Aids. In the past, money has been raised through efforts such as bowl-a-thons and garage sales by members like yourself and the Local’s officers. We support battered women’s shelters with donations of personal items and participate in the Aids Walk. Every Holiday Season we adopt a school in need and supply as many classrooms as we can with gifts and school supplies. We have a very effective organizing program and are in the process of organizing other companies in our industries to increase our strength at the bargaining table. As CWA increases in numbers so does our power. In the legislative arena we monitor how our legislators vote on issues affecting workers. We let our membership know who is worker friendly and who is not. Since our companies are constantly lobbying to restrict workers’ rights it is important that you are a registered voter. If you need to register to vote contact your steward or one of the Local officers. And, of course, when our brothers and sisters are involved in a dispute with their company we organize and mobilize support from within the labor movement and among our community allies to support their cause. As you can see we have many opportunities for our members to be involved and if you would like to volunteer please call any of the officers at the Local on 303-781-8700. You are a part of generations of workers who have stood up for the rights of workers and found dignity in the struggle. Solidarity,
