Thousands of customer service jobs in the United States have disappeared as corporations send more work overseas to boost their profits at the expense of working people. Overseas call centers also increase the risk of fraud and identity theft for consumers. But in Colorado, we have a chance to pass a bill that will take a first step to help make sure those good jobs stay in our communities.

Right now our bill is in the State House of Representatives. We need to let our Representatives know that tracking call center job losses and keeping American workers employed should be their top priority.

Calling is easy and will make a real difference. Here’s what you can say when you are connected:

“Hello, my name is _________ and I am a constituent and union member. I'm calling to urge my state lawmaker to support House Bill 1306 to take a first step towards protecting call center jobs in Colorado and keep American workers employed.”

House Bill 1306 (Monitoring Colorado Call Center Job Losses) will track and report companies which are sending jobs overseas by:

    • Requiring companies in Colorado which operate call centers to report on job losses (over 50 positions) for which the work has been transferred to off-shore call centers.
    • Requiring the Colorado Office of Economic Development to keep a list of Colorado call center jobs which have been replaced by overseas call centers.
    • Requiring the Colorado Office of Economic Development to issue an annual report to state lawmakers on Colorado call center job losses caused by offshoring.
